Rachel Berger Counseling

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. As a counselor, my goal is to create a supportive and accepting environment for clients. I believe empathy is an important aspect of therapy. People are unique in their individual struggles with a variety of issues, including self-harm, depression, anxiety, relationships, chronic pain, body-focused repetitive behaviors, gender identity, sexual orientation, gender expression, self-esteem, and disabilities (e.g., intellectual, developmental, learning, and physical).

Approach to counseling

I approach counseling as a partnership between the counselor and client(s). I am an eclectic therapist that draws from different counseling theories in order to individualize treatment plans for each client. See the Counseling Methods page to learn about the counseling theories I draw from.

Counseling is not only for people with mental illness

Anyone who is willing to do the work can benefit from counseling. Counseling provides a non-judgmental environment for clients to learn skills to improve their lives. Counseling can also provide the encouragement and support a person needs to initiate such changes.

Benefits of counseling

Counseling is an opportunity of self-reflection in order to identify what is working and not working in one’s life. We then determine what needs to change, whether it be internal or external, to improve one’s quality of life. Change is often met with resistance from friends and family, creating a lot of fear. This fear can result in paralysis of movement and often one will choose the comfort of others at the expense of themselves. Counseling can assist with overcoming these barriers and learning how to love self.
